Pastel Lilac Hair

Thursday, December 26, 2013

I should probably start by saying that this has got to be the hardest hair color to get.  But also the coolest one.  It's actually easy but only if you know what you're doing and since I didn't.. it was a dreadful process.

So first of all, I did bleach my hair.  But I went to a salon to get it done.  If you want to do it at home, be my guest but I recommend going to a salon.  At least a cheap one.

The girl at the salon told me not to bleach my hair more than twice that day and that I should wait at least a month if I were to do it again and I didn't listen.  Don't make the same mistake as I did.  My hair got really damage at the ends but I fixed it by using The Macadamia Deep Repair Masque.  Basically you apply it for 7 minutes, rinse out and vous a la it worked like magic.

Later, I applied a toner.  Which is very important because I had yellow and orange undertones.  I knew that if I were to apply the dye my hair would look very uneven.  So I used the Shimmer Lights Shampoo by Clairol.  Leave it for about 20 minutes and rinse out.  Your hair will probably feel very dry so I usually apply the Macadamia repairing masque but you could also just wash your hair with conditioner.

You'll probably have to apply the toner a few times before applying the hair dye.  Make sure there aren't many yellow undertones left, if any.  Otherwise it will be very unlikely for the dye to work.  I used a bunch of products from manic panic to ION but the one that worked the best for me was from Kuul Color System you can buy it for very cheap on Amazon.

If you're going for a pastel color then make sure to dilute it with some white hair conditioner.  I used TRESemmé because it was the cheapest one I could find and works really well.  The mixture has to look darker than the color that you want.  If you are looking for a really dark color then I suggest not diluting it with the conditioner.  My mixture looked like this:
